The literature examining the effect of institutions on spread conflict remains scarce despite 100 civilians being killed in armed conflicts every day as per United Nations statistics. We employ two-part model to study 190 countries from 2000 2016. find that a better rule law lowers by increasing cost violence for perpetrators. Next, conditional present, with weaker corruption control experience lower conflict. Consistent “grease wheels” hypothesis, this finding suggests victimized groups use bribery protect themselves against violence. Finally, press freedom reduces promoting government accountability, higher greater internet penetration. Our findings highlight roles and civil society preventing loss lives due conflicts.
